Raised on a farm in Middlesex County and formally educated as a scientist (BSc U. of Waterloo, MSc U. of Guelph), Lianne has always been fascinated by the natural world, and it is reflected in her art. She has been painting watercolours for 21 years, and exhibiting them for about 16 years. Though much of her art education has been self-directed, she has taken workshops and classes with Sue Archer, E.J. Thias, Carol Jessen, Don Getz, Tom Lynch, and Keiko Tanabe.
Lianne was an award-winning signature member of the St. Louis Watercolour Society and an active member of the St. Louis Artists’ Guild during her time living in that city. Moving back to Canada with her husband and two children in 2005, she has become very active in the artistic community of Oxford County, helping to organize and promote studio tours like Welcome Back to Otterville and the Oxford Studio Tour, as well as taking on the role of president of the Artists of Oxford for two years. Lianne became involved with the International Watercolour Society in 2014 as editor for their Biennale catalogue that year, and as co-founder, co-rep, and later Publicity Director of IWS Canada.
Her sources of inspiration and the media she works with are constantly changing and growing, as is her list of collectors. Since 2010 Lianne has been creating digital art which also reflects nature, mainly using its fractal geometry.
